A planned 24-hour test of the North Well backup water supply is scheduled for April 14 to 15, 2026. A precautionary Water Quality Advisory will be in effect.
The City of Castlegar will conduct a 24-hour test of its North Well backup water supply on April 14 and 15, 2026, temporarily switching from Arrow Lakes Reservoir to ensure the backup system is ready in case of an emergency.
What to expect
A Water Quality Advisory will be issued for the duration of the test. This is a precaution, it is NOT a Boil Water Notice. Water remains safe for most residents to use as normal, and most people will not notice differences in quality, pressure, or taste.
The advisory primarily affects individuals with weakened immune systems. Anyone seeking extra precaution may choose to boil their water for one minute before drinking.
How you'll be informed
The City will share updates through multiple channels:
- News releases and website alerts at castlegar.ca
- Voyent Alert! notifications (text, email, landline, voicemail)
- @cityofcastlegar on Facebook
- Print and radio advertisements
- Electronic message boards
After the test
Once the test is complete, the City will return to its regular water supply. The Water Quality Advisory will remain in effect during follow-up testing and will be rescinded through Voyent Alert! and other official channels.
