The highways through Castlegar

Castlegar sits at the junction of Highway 3 (the Crowsnest) and Highway 3A. Both are managed by the BC Ministry of Transportation and Transit, not the City.

• Highway 3 (Crowsnest) runs east-west across southern BC, connecting Castlegar to Trail (south), Salmo, the Salmo-Creston pass, the Crowsnest Pass, and eventually Lethbridge.
• Highway 3A heads north out of Castlegar to Nelson via the South Slocan corridor and the BC Hydro Brilliant Dam vicinity.
• Highway 22 connects south to Trail along the Columbia River.

Who maintains what

Highway sections through Castlegar are maintained by Yellowhead Road & Bridge under contract to the Province. Specifically, Columbia Avenue from 18th Street southward is a provincial highway, not a City road.
