A free, ever-changing outdoor sculpture gallery installed across downtown Castlegar every spring. The People's Choice winner becomes part of the permanent civic collection.
Walk down Columbia Avenue and you’ll find welded steel, carved stone, kinetic metal, and surprises tucked between storefronts and street corners. That’s Sculpturewalk, and it’s the reason Castlegar calls itself the Sculpture Capital of Canada. Downtown becomes an open-air gallery every spring, anchored by a People’s Choice vote that turns one new sculpture each year into permanent civic art.
Each spring, artists from across North America submit work for selection. Chosen sculptures are installed at outdoor sites throughout downtown for the year. At the end of the exhibition cycle, the People's Choice winner (decided by public vote) is purchased by the City to become part of the permanent civic collection, meaning every winner you walk past is here because residents and visitors voted for it.

Your vote becomes permanent civic art
The program is operated by the Castlegar Sculpturewalk Society, an independent non-profit. The Society handles artist calls, jurying, installation logistics, voting, and outreach. The City partners on the program and purchases the annual winner.
